Linda von Hoene

Linda von Hoene is the Director of the Graduate Student Instructor (GSI) Teaching and Resource Center at the University of California (UC), Berkeley, and Co-Director, with Sabrina Soracco, of Berkeley’s Summer Institute for Preparing Future Faculty. She holds a Ph.D. in German studies from UC Berkeley, an M.A. in German from the Ohio State University, and a B.A. in Economics and German from the State University of New York at Binghamton. At Berkeley she teaches courses for graduate students on teaching and learning in higher education, designing courses to enhance student motivation, and mentoring in higher education. She has published articles and book chapters on the professional development of graduate students and future faculty and on feminist, psychoanalytic, and postcolonial perspectives on the teaching and learning of foreign languages. She is currently co-authoring a book with Martin V. Covington and Nic Voge on course design and student motivation that will be published by Cambridge University Press. She is a former chair of the Graduate Student Professional Development Committee of the Professional and Organizational Development Network in Higher Education (POD). For the past several years she has worked with a number of Japanese universities that have established programs for preparing future faculty.
