Born in Tokyo in 1966, Dr. Sadaharu KATAOKA is currently President of Waseda Institute of International Strategy and Professor of School of International Liberal Studies in Waseda University and in which he joined April 2004. He is actually teaching African Politics and European Affairs in this school.
Before appointing at this University, he was served as a Research Fellow at the Japan Institute of International Affairs (JIIA)(2000-2004), which he joined in the end of March 2000. He was in charge of Study Groups on the conflict issues and the governance in Africa, the security issues in Europe and EU enlargement process at the Institute.
He graduated from the school of the Political Sciences and Economics of Waseda University and completed the doctoral course (Political Sciences) of University of Paris I and Paris II. He holds a PhD (Doctorate on Political Sciences) in Political Science from the University of Paris I (Pantheon-Sorbonne).
He participated in numerous international symposia on Africa and Europe as a panelist or discussant. In 2002, he attended to WSSD held in Johannesburg and organized symposium in Johannesburg within the WSSD. He was also invited to participate to the Second Civil Society Conference held in Addis Ababa as a panelist by the African Union. Recently, he was invited to participate to 6th FICA organized by French Ministry of Defense.
Before joining JIIA, he was in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (MOFA) and served as a Special Assistant within the political section of the Embassy of Japan in France(1996-2000). He was in charge of Peace Process in Middle East and African issues.
