Abstract:
It is especially important now for the Japan-U.S. alliance to be deepened and strengthened. It allows Japan to play a peace-building role in the Asia Pacific region as Asian countries expect Japan’s active engagement. Similarly, the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Agreement is important given the current situation in which the World Trade Organization (WTO) is not achieving its goals of making global rules for trade and investment. It is vital that mature developed countries voluntarily make new rules that can be used as models. We will also request other countries like China and Russia to comply with such rules of investment and protection of intellectual property.
It is important for China to be aware of their responsibilities as a member of the international society. Moreover, if cooperation in an area of energy (such as nuclear power and shale gas) is strengthened between Japan and the U.S., it can be used as leverage against Russia.
