Seminar 3 “East Asia Community and APEC”

Abstract:

Japan’s Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama proposed an idea of an East Asian Community, while the US proposed the Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific (FTAAP), an APEC-wide free trade agreement. Are these regional frameworks compatible or conflicting? If conflicting, which is a more desirable framework? What are the roadmaps for an East Asian Community and the FTAAP? These are some of the issues to be discussed in this session.
