Abarth is preparing to launch its first electric model. As we know, the brand has decided to engage its users through a series of online surveys to choose some of the features that his electrified cars will have. We started with the choice of the sound of the AVAS system. When will the first 100% electric Abarth car debut? According to an Autocar report, Fiat is expected to soon confirm an Abarth high-performance variant of its electric 500 ahead of next year’s launch.
It will be Abarth’s debut as the Italian carmaker’s high-performance electrical division. Apparently we shouldn’t stop at the electric 500 only. In fact, other models will also have an Abarth variant. The CEO of Fiat, Olivier François, has announced that he expects to see one to three Abarth models in the next few years. The CEO recalled that over a year ago he said it wouldn’t be difficult to make an Abarth version of the electric 500 as battery cars are already a lot of fun to drive.
The good news is that they are already working on this high-performance model of the electric 500. However, Olivier François had to admit that it was more complicated than he first thought. To build a real Abarth it was necessary, first of all, to intervene on the powertrain. However, once the desired power and torque levels were achieved, the transmission, brakes and several other aspects of the car had to be adapted. In order to create a product that lives up to Abarth’s DNA, a substantial amount of work was therefore carried out.
However, final tests are currently underway. In particular, Fiat’s number one points the finger on appearance of sound What will be “fantastic“and that can be activated or deactivated according to the user’s preferences. As we mentioned at the beginning, Abarth will dialogue with its community, involving it in the development of its future cars. Sound and other aspects will therefore be decided with the help of users. .
It will therefore be very interesting to discover the characteristics of this first Abarth electric car. The electric motor should obtain an increase in performance capable of making driving much more brilliant than today. However, these increased performances will inevitably lead to a decrease in autonomy. Recall that the 500 electric (here our test) with a 42.2 kWh battery is able to travel up to 320 km according to the WLTP cycle.
