Abarth is preparing to launch its first electric model. It will be Abarth’s debut as the Italian carmaker’s high-performance electrical division. Apparently we shouldn’t stop at the electric 500 only. In fact, other models will also have an Abarth variant. The CEO of Fiat, Olivier François, has announced that he expects to see one to three Abarth models in the next few years. The CEO recalled that over a year ago he said it wouldn’t be difficult to make an Abarth version of the electric 500 as battery cars are already a lot of fun to drive.
The good news is that they are already working on this high-performance model of the electric 500. However, Olivier François had to admit that it was more complicated than he first thought. To build a real Abarth it was necessary, first of all, to intervene on the powertrain. However, once the desired power and torque levels were achieved, the transmission, brakes and several other aspects of the car had to be adapted. In order to create a product that lives up to Abarth’s DNA, a substantial amount of work was therefore carried out.
However, final tests are currently underway.
